If you’re given the right information, there is no need to waste time — time that you could be spending doing other things. Here are five questions and answers about phone displays and screen protectors to make you better informed. Let’s get started!

Do gorilla glass devices need screen protectors?

Gorilla Glass is an extremely durable, scratch-resistant glass, but it’s not completely scratch-proof. So, you need a screen protector in case you drop your phone because it might not survive the fall and its screen will crack.

Tempered glass screen protectors are used to absorb the damage from the drop. That’s why it can shatter into tiny pieces on impact. The point is to avoid damaging the screen itself since replacing it can be quite expensive.

Is gorilla glass stronger than tempered glass?

Depending on the version of Gorilla Glass, it can be stronger than tempered glass. In general, the latest versions(GG 5 and 6) are much more durable. Corning, in particular, announced that their new Gorilla Glass 6 “can survive 15 drops onto hard surfaces from 1 meter or higher without breaking”.

There are many different types of Gorilla Glass such as:

  • Gorilla Glass 6
  • Gorilla Glass 5
  • Gorilla Glass SR+
  • Gorilla Glass 4,
  • Gorilla Glass 3 with NDR
  • Gorilla Glass 1
  • Gorilla Glass NBT
  • Antimicrobial Gorilla Glass
  • Vibrant Corning Gorilla Glass
  • Large Cover Gorilla Glass and more.

Each of them has different durability with the Gorilla Glass 6 being the strongest at the moment.

Do screen protectors affect touch sensitivity?

Most screen protectors don’t affect touch sensitivity at all. They are specifically designed this way. However, if you purchase one of very low quality, there is a possibility you may experience some screen sensitivity issues.

It’s recommended you purchase tempered glass protectors which also come with an increased lifespan. In the majority of cases, touch sensitivity issues will appear if you either use 2 screen protectors on top of each other(not many people are gonna do that) or just some of the ridiculously cheap Chinese ones.

Can a screen protector affect the camera quality?

If your screen protector is clean, the image quality of your camera should be the same. If your pictures start appearing blurry, your protector is most likely scratched in a specific spot or dust has started building up between the phone display and the screen protector.

  1. In the case of using tempered glass, due to its thickness, there might be some “problems” close to the sides of the images. Might look like the vignette effect that many photographers use.
  2. Your screen protector may not be completely colorless or transparent and hence causing some tone shifts and lower sharpness in your image quality.
  3. If you use a screen protector on your rear cameras, you may have issues when taking photos using the flash. It’s very common for the glass to reflect the light coming from your flash. I’d recommend you just use the phone case as protection for the back cameras. It’s more than enough if your phone falls on a flat surface.

How do I Make my Screen Protector Sticky Again?

In most cases, it will be impossible to rejuvenate your screen protector. However, there are two methods that you can use in order to try and restore its stickiness. They involve the usage of water, soap, a hair dryer, and packaging tape.

There is no guarantee that any of these methods is gonna work. They both work similarly so you can try them out before you throw your screen protector in the trash bin.

Method #1
  1. Place the sticky side under running water.
  2. Gently use soap to clean any fingerprints and dust. Then rinse.
  3. Use a hair dryer to dry both sides of the protector.
  4. If room dust lands on the sticky side again, turn the packaging tape into a loop and use it to remove any remaining dust.
  5. Place the protector back onto the screen.
Method #2
  1. Make sure that the AC or any fans inside the room are turned off.
  2. Remove the screen protector and wash it with a semi-wet towel.
  3. Take some packaging tape (a clear ultra-sticky one is highly preferred but the classic brown one can do the work just fine) and completely wrap the phone with it. This should remove all the dust and dirt from your phone. Use multiple pieces if there is, even more, dust remaining.
  4. Do the same for the adhesive side of the screen protector. Remember that you don’t want any dust between the protector and the screen.
  5. Remove the package tape from the phone and the protector, line them up and let the protector fall into place.
  6. Press out any bubbles to the outside using a cardboard. If you can’t get rid of the bubbles, a tiny drop of vegetable oil between the screen and protector will do the trick (use a cotton swab). Afterward, push the oil outside into a paper towel, and you are done.

Hopefully, we’ve answered a few of your questions about these impactful accessories. You might not be able to totally eliminate your risk of breaking or scratching up your phone display, but at the very least, you can spend less time worrying about it and more time enjoying your device!
