Are Corsair Products Worth it? | Complete Pros & Cons Review

Since January 1994, Corsair has been in the business of manufacturing computer memory, power supplies, solid-state drives, PC cases, and much more. And while their products have gotten good reviews over the years, they aren’t without their fair share of problems.

They have established themselves, in the computer world, as a company that gives you more gamer-oriented products. That’s not to say that their items should not be bought by casual users. They are mostly concerned about the enthusiastic user who demands additional performance and quality while also being willing to pay a premium price.

The following article aims to better educate consumers who are considering purchasing a Corsair product and provide those in the market for one with all the information needed to make a fully informed decision. So, if you are wondering whether Corsair is a good brand and actually worth it, I have tried to list out the key facts about all of their products that you need to consider while making up your mind.

This post is long and very detailed so if you don’t have time to read everything, feel free to check some of the most important pros and cons of the brand down below:

Pros

  • High-quality products.
  • Best manufacturer of RAM, PSUs, PC cases, liquid coolers, and gaming mice.
  • Corsair iCUE software can synchronize your RGB and make your gaming PC look awesome.
  • Reliable and long-lasting products.
  • The vast majority of their products are worth it in the long term.

Cons

  • Generally expensive items.
  • Customer support is questionable and has a lot of people complaining.
  • Some gaming chairs have a plastic base.
  • Only a few options for people on a budget.
  • No value-for-money apparel.

Are Corsair products worth it?

Corsair is one of the most popular brands in the computer hardware world, especially when it comes to RAM modules and power supplies. Their products are very reliable and long-lasting. However, Corsair is not always worth it for every product category since it has some drawbacks you should consider.

Should you use Corsair Custom PC Builder?

Corsair Custom PC Builder is a great option if you’re looking to build your own PC but don’t know where to start. Nevertheless, its downside is that the final product may not be as balanced as a prebuilt one since Corsair only really helps you with compatibility issues between your hardware.

Unfortunately, they just show you some size recommendations for your case and every hardware that’s fully compatible. You can easily end up pairing a premium Nvidia RTX 3090 with a mid-range i5 CPU. I wouldn’t recommend using a PC builder unless you know what you are doing. On the positive side of things, they have a wide variety of options to choose from in comparison to other brands such as Skytech Gaming.

Corsair iCUE Software

Corsair iCUE is the software that you can use on your computer to control your RGB lighting and other devices. It will allow you to set up multiple profiles so that you can change the colors and effects of your devices whenever you want.

In addition, you can set custom curves for your fan speed to reach the desired RPMs that won’t make your PC too noisy while maintaining a cool temperature. This software is compatible with almost every Corsair product, including keyboards, mice, headsets, and more. Think of it as Corsair’s version of Razer Synapse or Logitech G HUB.

Gaming Gear

Keyboards

Corsair has been in the mechanical gaming keyboard business for a very long time, and they have a reputation for quality and durability through the years of usage. The first thing you’ll notice about any of their keyboards is that they are designed to be as stylish and professional as any other keyboard. It’s nice that the brand typically utilizes authentic Cherry MX switches so you can be certain of the typing experience you’ll have depending on which switches you choose.

They come in a range of different models, including some that have a wrist rest included, which makes them look even more appealing, and they come with a wide range of features that make them stand out from the crowd. There are also several versions available for each model so that you can choose one that has all the features that matter most to you. For instance, you can choose a tenkeyless version or one with Cherry MX Brown switches such as Corsair Gaming K95 RGB Platinum.

In terms of pricing, the cheapest Corsair keyboard has a starting price tag of $60, which is definitely more than your average non-gaming keyboard. Unfortunately, high quality always comes with extravagant pricing. That’s how this always goes, so if you’re looking for a keyboard that fits your budget, you’re going to have a hard time. Another significant drawback is that the company only produces gaming keyboards, so if you are not a gamer, you will most likely need to look elsewhere for an affordable keyboard.

Pros

  • Excellent build quality.
  • Durable and comfortable.
  • Stylish and professional design.
  • Utilize the Cherry MX switches.

Cons

  • Expensive pricing.
  • Complete lack of budget and non-gaming options.

Headsets

Corsair’s gaming headsets come in a variety of styles. They are designed to feel comfortable and durable. The Corsair VOID Pro RGB Wireless is a great example. It comes with memory foam ear cups that allow you to wear the headset for hours without any discomfort by lowering moisture accumulation and heat buildup. It also has an adjustable headband that allows you to adjust it to your liking and a rubber microphone that you can easily bend.

Corsair headsets are also a great choice for gaming, with 7.1 surround sound that makes you feel like you’re actually inside the game. The more expensive the headset is, the better audio quality it has. I have only used an entry-level one, which sounded pretty good and had a very decent microphone. In addition, iCUE now offers improvements like AI-Assisted Noise Reduction and Room Echo Removal through integration with Nvidia Broadcast Audio Effects. Let’s just say that after trying it out for myself, it exceeded my expectations. In my opinion, Corsair is definitely up there with Razer and Logitech headsets in terms of quality.

When it comes to pricing, there are indeed a few budget options that start at about $30. It’s not the cheapest price point, but keep in mind that you still get a lot of quality and features for that amount of money. Overall, if you are in search of a gaming headset, you should definitely take a look at Corsair.

Pros

  • Very good sound quality.
  • Decent microphones.
  • Excellent gaming choice with 7.1 surround audio.
  • Reasonable pricing.
  • Noise Reduction and Room Echo Removal using Nvidia Broadcast Audio Effects.

Cons

  • Very few budget options.
  • Not the fanciest design.

Mice & Mousepads

Corsair mice are loved by gamers for a reason! They are known for being highly responsive and comfortable, and you can actually feel that. The more expensive models come with an adjustable weight system that allows you to change the weight of the mouse. Their durability over many years of usage is ensured by the materials employed in their manufacture.

I’ve only used a couple of Corsair’s mice, but they seem really well-made, and since they were their entry-level versions, you should anticipate even better construction for their premium models. The majority of their mice have a subtle look and are less extravagant than other models from other brands.

Their mousepads are also made from a high-quality fabric that prevents fraying, so even after years of use, they won’t lose their shape or fray. The company makes several different types of mouse pads, including wireless charging, RGB, cloth surface, and hard surface mouse pads.

The price point for the mice is also very reasonable considering how much value you get from them because you will be able to use them for several years before needing to replace them due to breakage or malfunctioning parts inside the device itself (which is rare). The price tag varies from $40 to $120.

Their pricing ceiling is typically substantially lower than those of other brands. For instance, Razer and Logitech’s flagship gaming mice cost over $150 and $250, respectively. As for the mousepads, they fall under the same category as the mice. They cost about 40% less than those of competitors while having very similar features. Overall, Corsair is value for money in this specific category!

Pros

  • Responsive and comfortable.
  • Elegant design.
  • Value for money.
  • High quality.

Cons

  • Mice don’t look as fancy as those of other brands.

Monitors-Corsair Xeneon

It’s been 9 months since Corsair released their first-ever monitor: the Corsair Xeneon. The 32-inch monitor is available in 3 different versions, including a 1440p/165Hz, a 1440p/240Hz, and a 4K/144Hz model. It features an IPS panel that offers wide viewing angles and 1ms response times for gamers, and it has a quite heavy stand that is made of aluminum.

These specs don’t come as a surprise though, since they have a “heavy” price tag that varies from $650 to $1000 for the UHD 4K version. Because of its 100% Adobe RGB and sRGB color gamut, this monitor is, in my opinion, perfect for photo and video editing because it produces more realistic and bright colors. If you are on a budget, I would advise you to check other cheaper brands such as AOC.

Now onto the negatives. The monitor only has 8-bit color depth and you can’t really change that. In addition, the aluminum stand is huge, which is not ideal if you don’t have a lot of desk space, and I would prefer it if the monitor had no bezels on its left and right so that you could stack 2 or 3 monitors next to each other.

For its price, the Corsair Xeneon is not the best value-for-money monitor on the market. However, if you are a supporter of the brand and you also have their other products, this monitor could be worth it to you since it works with iCUE.

You can learn more about this monitor here!

Pros

  • The perfect option for creative tasks.
  • IPS panel with excellent viewing angles and color vibrance.
  • 1 ms response time makes it ideal for gaming.
  • High-quality materials.

Cons

  • Expensive. It’s not value for money.
  • The aluminum stand is too large.
  • Only 8-bit color depth.

Apparel & Gear

Corsair’s apparel and gear are designed to be the best in the business. Or at least that’s what they claim to be. They offer a small range of products from T-shirts, hoodies, and jackets to bags and thermistor bottles. Their apparel is both comfortable and stylish so you can look good while you’re gaming?!?! I am not sure why Corsair got into clothing in the first place.

I haven’t used any of them myself, but I know people who do own a few pieces. The general consensus is that they are kind of overpriced for their quality. The T-shirts and bottles are probably some of the more reasonable deals that you can get at $20 and $25 each, while $90 for a jacket is too much for most people.

Pros

  • Decent quality gear and comfortable apparel.

Cons

  • Small variety.
  • Most items are overpriced.

Gaming Chairs

Corsair’s gaming chairs are some of the best in the business, mainly because they’re well-designed, comfortable, and built to last. The chairs come in a range of colors, and they include adjustable neck and lumbar cushions that are covered in luxurious microfiber fabric. I have only sat in a Corsair chair once!

They are as comfortable as advertised but there are a few disadvantages you should keep in mind. The chairs themselves are designed for long-term use but some of them such as the T3 RUSH have a plastic base that is supposed to support a fully grown adult who might weigh up to 120kg. I am not quite sure how this is gonna work.

At the same time, the cost of the cheapest chair is set at $289 which means that there is no option for people on a tighter budget. Overall, I have some bad memories of chairs with a plastic base so I am not particularly sure if I would ever pay that much money without at least having a metal or aluminum one. If you have money to spend, then I would recommend you to get the T2 ROAD WARRIOR instead which comes with an aluminum base.

Pros

  • Comfortable sitting for hours.
  • Top quality.
  • Quite durable.
  • Fair pricing considering how expensive gaming chairs are.

Cons

  • No options for people on a low budget.
  • Some chairs come with a plastic base.

RGB Custom Case Panels & Lighting Accessories

Corsair also makes custom RGB case panels that are designed specifically to fit in your case. These panels can be used with a fan light controller or motherboard header to control the lights in your case with ease. They are available in several different colors including red, blue, green, and more. In addition, their lighting strips and lighting towers are compatible with other Corsair peripherals and can all be controlled using iCUE.

In terms of quality and pricing, these products are leaning towards the expensive side. The RGB lighting is just lighting no matter the brand. You get a bit more vibrant colors with Corsair but at the end of the day, it’s not worth the money unless you use their software to synchronize everything and make a sick gaming setup.

Pros

  • Bright and vibrant colors.
  • Great build quality.
  • You can control everything from one software.

Cons

  • Very extravagant.

PC Components

Cases

When it comes to PC cases, Corsair is frequently regarded as having some of the finest on the market(on the same level as NZXT). Selecting the right one may be challenging, notably with Corsair’s extensive selection of PC cases. In general, the majority of Corsair’s PC cases are built for gamers. They are designed to be the ultimate product in gaming performance and style.

They combine a minimalist design with all the latest technology(always depending on the model and price point) to give you a case that is both beautiful and functional. The airflow in some cases could definitely be improved but if that’s what you’re focused on, then you can easily get something like the Corsair 275R Airflow which is designed for that purpose.

As for pricing, they do have budget options with a starting price point of about $50. If you do a little research on the internet, you’ll quickly realize that the Carbide Series SPEC-05 is the top selection for a PC case on a limited budget. It’s a mid-tower case with an asymmetrical, smooth-edged design. In general, Corsair’s Carbide line has been great for budget gamers over the years. Be sure to check them out if you want to spend less than $100 on a case.

Pros

  • Minimal and elegant design.
  • Very well priced.
  • Large variety for all budgets.
  • Exceptional quality.

Cons

  • The airflow needs a few improvements in some models.

Cooling Solutions

The Corsair AIO liquid coolers are some of the best options in terms of cooling performance, size, and noise level(if not the best). Their pricing is pretty reasonable based on the quality that they offer and the price points of their direct competitors like NZXT, Coolermaster, etc…

The base of these coolers has a large nickel-plated copper cold plate that makes contact with your CPU for maximum heat dissipation. This essentially gives them excellent thermal conductivity and helps keep the pressure balanced if you’re overclocking.

The radiator on Corsair’s liquid cooling setups uses high-quality aluminum fin stacks that have been optimized for high performance and are nicely spaced to provide maximum airflow. You can now understand how all of these features will end up increasing the price of the final product.

Finally, the fans have magnetic levitation bearings (MTB) that reduce friction and noise while increasing reliability compared to traditional fan designs. They also come with RGB lighting that can be controlled using the iCUE software suite. Overall, if you are in need of a CPU cooler or simply some 120mm RGB case fans, Corsair should be your first stop.

Pros

  • Best liquid cooling manufacturer alongside NZXT.
  • Excellent performance and airflow.
  • The fans are almost silent.
  • Perfect for overclocking and gaming enthusiasts.

Cons

  • Quite expensive even though, they are worth their money.

Custom Cooling with Xydro X Series

According to Corsair, the Hydro X Series is the easiest way to add custom cooling to your rig. And with a wide range of components available, you can design your own custom loop that fits your unique needs. As you can see in the video from LinusTechTips, you need to have some experience with computer building.

I wouldn’t advise anyone who is a beginner to try this. The customization options and combinations are plenty so it’s up to you to decide if you want to mix things up or just save some time and order a pre-built AIO liquid cooling system.

Memory & Storage

I might sound biased towards Corsair but their RAM, SSD, and USB flash drive quality is on point. They have a great reputation for making reliable memory and storage that’s compatible with a ton of different systems. They are also reasonably priced, so you won’t have to break the bank to get the most out of your computer.

Compared to other brands such as Kingston or G.Skill, their RAMs are about 20% more expensive. As for availability, Corsair products are easy to find in most stores. You can also check out their website, even though the pricing is much higher there. Finally, if you get an RGB RAM version, you can easily control it with the iCUE software.

The big negative of Corsair when it comes to storage drives is the lack of variety. There are not nearly as many options as in the RAM category. SSD drives are a bit extravagant compared to the other brands but the USB sticks are pretty cheap starting at about $10.

Pros

  • State-of-the-art performance of RAM modules.
  • High compatibility and durability.
  • USB devices are cheap.
  • Reliable manufacturer of RAM.

Cons

  • SSDs are a bit more expensive than alternatives.
  • Low variety except for RAMs.

Power Supply Units

Corsair is the best power supply company currently on earth, period. Their PSUs are known for their reliability and durability, and they come in a wide range of sizes and prices, so you can choose the one that’s right for your needs. They are built from premium components and come with a range of different features that make them perfect for your gaming setup, whether it’s a high-end rig or a budget gaming PC. Just take a look at the article on the best PSUs of 2022. Corsair is comfortably at the top for a reason.

Having a high-quality PSU is significant as it protects the rest of your components from power cuts, power surges, and more. I am not in favor of spending more money than you typically should but when it comes to power supplies, paying an extra 20-30 bucks could turn out to be detrimental to the longevity of your PC hardware.

Pros

  • Best power supply brand on the market.
  • Durable and reliable.
  • Best quality.

Cons

  • Expensive but definitely worth it.

Gaming PCs

Corsair ONE & Gaming Laptops

Corsair ONE is a compact gaming PC that comes in many different versions and is built to handle any game you can throw at it. It features a custom-built liquid cooling system that keeps your hardware at optimal temperatures, allowing you to play for hours without the risk of overheating, and it also doesn’t make much noise when you’re trying to relax after a long day of work or school.

These are expensive machines so don’t expect to get one for less than $2500 while they do have state-of-the-art performance and are easily upgradeable(like every desktop PC on the market), they do have a big drawback and that’s their cooling design. Just looking at the casing, you can probably tell that there is something wrong with the airflow.

It’s not gonna affect performance all that much but the more powerful hardware you use the hotter the device gets and your CPU might start experiencing some throttling. Therefore, it’s very possible that you may run into even more serious issues further down the road if you choose to upgrade your system.

Pros

  • Top quality
  • Ideal for gaming, video editing, and intensive tasks.
  • Gorgeous design philosophy.

Cons

  • Highly expensive.
  • Bad airflow can cause a slight decrease in performance.

Customer Support

Corsair is committed to providing quality products, but sometimes even their items might stop working and just be DOA(dead on delivery). I never had a faulty Corsair product so I can’t really tell you how well they handle things.

What I can tell you is that based on reviews, a lot of people are unhappy with the customer service. Their website has a Trustpilot score of 2.3 so you can imagine how things are going over there. Most people are unhappy about shipping delays and slow response times on their tickets.

Conclusion

To summarize, Corsair’s product reliability and durability are on point. They are easily one of the most trustworthy computer hardware brands on the market today. Their CPU coolers, power supply units, RAM modules, peripherals, and PC cases have all been designed to stand the test of time by Consumer Reports, which puts them in a position to be able to guarantee the quality of their products for up to five years after purchase.

This is a testament to the high quality of their components and demonstrates that Corsair understands what it takes to build enthusiast-level hardware that will last. However, there are some areas where Corsair falls flat, such as their customer support and the apparel category (I am still not sure why they would ever make apparel, but it is what it is). If this review of the brand hasn’t solved every question you have, then leave a question in the comments down below. Have an outstanding day!
